Yad L’Achim Warns: Missionary Activity Takes a Dangerous New Turn
Accurate and documented information obtained by Yad L’Achim, the organization that has stood at the forefront of the battle against missionary activity for more than half a century, points to a new and destructive missionary strategy: the establishment of centers disguised as innocent cafés, with the goal of reaching unsuspecting Jews and attempting to lead them away from Judaism R”L • Read More
According to information gathered by Yad L’Achim, the notorious missionary group “Jews for J..” has developed a new method of operation. As part of its efforts to influence as many Jews as possible, the group has established an unofficial network of cafés operating in cities throughout Israel, with the declared purpose of creating a “third space” for missionary outreach among people who would not invite Christian missionaries into their homes.
The initiative is referred to in internal missionary publications, which are used to solicit donations from supporters around the world, as the “third space model” — a “place that is neither home nor workplace, where conversations and personal connections can be created.”
The missionaries reportedly acknowledge in these publications that most Jews will not enter a church and will not invite people associated with missionary activity into their homes. Therefore, they have adopted a new approach: reaching people in places that appear natural, neutral, and non-threatening. According to the publications, this initiative is intended to replace street outreach and distribution of missionary materials with a more sophisticated method designed to create personal relationships and missionary conversations outside traditional settings.
According to Yad L’Achim, these cafés are not merely businesses selling beverages, but rather serve as platforms for creating relationships through which visitors can be exposed to the group’s materials and messages, with the stated goal of persuading Jews to abandon their faith.
Yad L’Achim investigators obtained a broad fundraising publication directed at donors who support missionary activity, in which the missionaries write: “Most Jews will never enter a traditional church, but they will sit down for coffee and conversation. And that is where the seeds of the g.spel are planted.”
The publication further states that the purpose of these locations is to allow people to “encounter [Yoshke] through genuine relationships, community, and the gospel message.”
Yad L’Achim reports that such cafés are already operating in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa, with another branch planned for Be’er Sheva.
One of the cafés mentioned by the organization is “Basמטה” (“Basimta”), which Yad L’Achim says is owned by missionary pastor Yoel Ben David. The organization claims that Ben David is known among its activists as a prominent missionary figure who previously served as head of a missionary training team in Israel on behalf of “Jews for J..,” and that one of his stated goals is to return missionary activity to the heart of Jerusalem.
In an effort to attract as many visitors as possible, the cafés reportedly offer significantly lower prices than comparable establishments. According to missionary publications cited by Yad L’Achim, “the prices are not intended to generate profits, but solely to fund our g.spel activities.”
Yad L’Achim further claims that the strategy has already produced results. In an internal missionary update published in recent days, the group reportedly described a woman who visited one of the cafés in Tel Aviv and was later baptized into Christianity after being exposed, according to the organization, to the New Testament and the group’s activities R”L. The missionaries reportedly viewed the case as proof that the model was achieving its objectives.
Yad L’Achim says the internal publications expose, in its view, the true purpose behind the new centers and emphasizes that it will continue its efforts to combat missionary activity. The organization says it is currently formulating legal and public-awareness responses in light of what it describes as a significant escalation in missionary efforts in Israel.
