Prof. Shimon Silman writes: Remember the story (משל) of the Mountain of Faith? The scientists struggled and climbed up the mountain for years, falling and getting up and finally reaching the top where they excitedly informed the believers who were sitting there that they, the scientists, finally reached the top of the mountain where they can announce that they too have come to believe in G-d. Rabbi YY Jacobson: It is a strange episode — in this week’s portion of Chukas. When poisonous snakes attack the Jews in the desert, G-d instructs Moses to fashion a special healing instrument: a pole topped with the form of a snake. She started snapping, and I withdrew. We’re fulfilling our obligations, but the warmth is gone. The longer we’re married, the more distant we feel, as if the connection between us is quietly fading. In fact, she once said, “I feel invisible.” How does a couple lose their connection, and how do we rebuild the connection we’ve lost? • Aharon Schmidt replies, from the Living Jewish’s Farbrengen column • Read More
