Israeli security forces foiled a planned terrorist attack overnight, arresting the terrorist during a covert operation in the Balata refugee camp near Shchem.
The joint operation was carried out by officers from the Gideonim Unit of the Israel Police’s Lahav 433, together with the IDF’s Samaria Brigade and the Shin Bet, following precise intelligence that identified the suspect as a “ticking time bomb.”
According to security officials, the terrorist had previously evaded several arrest attempts by Israeli forces and was planning to carry out a deadly attack against Israeli civilians and IDF troops in the coming days.
After receiving real-time intelligence that the suspect had returned to his home under the cover of darkness, elite commandos launched a rapid overnight raid. The forces entered the camp covertly, surrounded the building, and stormed the residence, catching the terrorist by surprise.
The suspect was arrested in his bed before he could resist or use his weapon.
Security officials said the wanted terrorist was considered one of the highest-priority targets in the Shchem area and also served as a major arms dealer for terrorist operatives in the region.
The suspect was taken into custody for further questioning by the Shin Bet as Israeli security forces continue operations to thwart terrorist activity throughout Judea and Samaria.
