Wellesley-Weston Chabad and the Wellesley Police Department faced off in their annual charity softball game on Sunday, in front of dozens of spectators in what is becoming a “look forward to ” event, raising $700 to support the efforts of American Friends of Kiev, a New York-based charity that is helping feed and shelter Ukrainian refugees.

On the field, the Wellesley-Weston Chabad Shluggers jumped out to an early lead but WPD’s bats came alive in the seventh inning with a home run and a triple. A ninth inning rally fell short for the Shluggers, who went down 18-16.

The annual contest between Wellesley-Weston Chabad and the Wellesley Police Department which is put together by Rabbi Moshe Bleich and Officer Tim Barros, supports a different charity every year. Last year, the game raised money for the Wellesley-based Catastrophic Emergency Fund. This is the 12th year of the annual game, with the record being an even 6-6.
