Israel to Begin Withdrawal from Lebanon if Hezbollah Disarmament Moves Forward
In a dramatic development, Israel announced it will gradually pull IDF forces from five key positions in Lebanon, after the Lebanese government declared it will move to disarm Hezbollah by the end of 2025 • Read More
The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement Monday praising Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Tammam Salam, calling the cabinet’s decision “a momentous step” that could restore Lebanon’s sovereignty. Israel said it will coordinate its withdrawal with a US-led security framework, contingent on the Lebanese Armed Forces taking real action against Hezbollah.
Israel has maintained a military presence in Lebanon since Operation Northern Arrows in November 2024, which targeted more than 12,500 Hezbollah sites across the country. The campaign dealt Hezbollah its heaviest blow in decades, killing over 2,500 senior operatives — including longtime leader Hassan Nasrallah — and crippling command centers, weapons depots, and Radwan Force infrastructure.
Since then, the IDF has continued precision strikes to prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding. Monday’s announcement marks the first signal of a possible shift from confrontation to phased withdrawal — but only if Lebanon follows through on its pledge.
