The Moreshet Auction House has published a special Chabad auction in accordance with the auction house’s tradition to occasionally dedicate and entire auction to Anshei Shlomeinu, Chabad Chassidim, who want to purchase Chabadic items, Sifrei Kodesh, Igrot Kodesh and gifts given directly by the Rebbe.

Among the special items of this auction, there is a fascinating discovery revealing some of the activity of the Chassid Rabbi Yisroel Asher Liba for the Rebbe’s immigration to Eretz Yisrael with his family. The document that was revealed was hidden for a hundred years, since 1926, when the Rebbe received the visa to Eretz Yisrael in his city of Yekaterinoslav.

The category of ‘Given Directly by Him’ introduces items that were given during the varied Chalukot of the Rebbe over the years: Tanyas, bills and coins. For the first time ever, a bag of Pidyon Nefesh is auctioned. The Rebbe carried this paper bag with thousands of pleas by Beit Yisroel on his way to pray by the Tziyun in Tamuz 1991. The highlight of this category is undoubtedly an early cashier’s check from the 1960s with the Rebbe’s handwritten signature. The check was given as a gift to a bridegroom -– the son of one of the leaders of the Mussar Movement in the recent generation – for his wedding.

The auction also introduces varied Chabad books, some of them rare. There is also a large collection of Tanyas that were collected by one of Anshei Shlomeinu for dozens of years and they include a “prototype” edition that was printed in 1900 and on it, all following editions of the Tanya are based. There are also Tanya books that were printed around the world by the Rebbe’s instruction since the Mivtza Tanya in 1979; some of these were printed in most remote locations. In the auction, you will also find the Fayid edition of the Chabadic Siddur, which was printed during the Yom Kippur War on the western side of the Suez Canal. The Rebbe spoke of this Tanya in a Sicha for Chag HaGe’ulah, Tamuz 12, 1979, saying (freely translated from Yiddish): “And especially when this Tanya is now studied, and from this Siddur one prays, and a Psalm is recited from this Tehillim… then it becomes openly revealed that in Fayid there is an eternal presence of Toras Hashem and His Mitzvos, including also the inner dimension of the Torah… And particularly now that the Tehillim and Siddurim are present here, and Jews are studying and praying with them, or reciting a chapter of Tehillim from them… by this, they bring closer the true and complete Redemption“.

A place of honor at the end of the catalog, as last but not least, is given to Igrot Kodesh by Rabboteinu Nessi’einu: letter with special greetings by the Rebbe the Rayatz for good health, Shiduchim and Parnasah; special letters by the Rebbe from the months of Adar, Nissan and Iyar with additions and special blessings; rare note from the Rebbe’s table containing Ma’anot handwritten by the Rebbe.
