On the first night of Chanukah 5786, hundreds of Jews gathered to celebrate the Yom Tov at the iconic Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. Suddenly, gunfire shattered the atmosphere. Two terrorists opened fire in a horrific attack, murdering 15 people, among them the Shliach Rabbi Eli Schlangar, may G-d avenge his blood.
The world was stunned. The local Jewish community was left deeply shaken. But no one anticipated what would come next.
By the following morning, a new Chabad House was established at the very site of the attack. Since then, it has been operating nonstop. Tens of thousands of Jews have already put on tefillin there. The Chabad House is open six days a week, bringing light, strength, and connection to thousands.
“People who lived through the Six Day War, through October 7, and veteran Chabad booths at the Western Wall say they have never seen scenes like this,” says Noach Koncipolsky, founder of the site.
The Chabad House is now launching a $120,000 campaign to sustain and expand this vital work.
