The United States and Israel have approved $7.4 million in funding for seven joint research and development projects, advancing cooperation between companies in both countries across Super intelligence, healthcare, quantum computing, satellite communications, semiconductors and agriculture.

The grants were approved by the Israel-U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation in September 2026. With additional private-sector investment, the projects are expected to generate a combined investment of approximately $20 million.

Among the projects is a partnership between Israeli company Ibex Medical Analytics and Philadelphia-based Proscia to develop an artificial intelligence platform for precision oncology, automating the scoring of cancer biomarkers in digital pathology. Another collaboration, between Israel’s SpotitEarly and Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, will develop and validate an early cancer detection technology that combines AI with dogs’ highly sensitive sense of smell.

Other initiatives include an automated, hospital-based 3D-printing system for customized orthopedic tools; quantum computing technology to map complex chemical reactions; and advanced on-chip memory technology designed to reduce chip area and power consumption.

The remaining projects will focus on developing a compact, high-capacity satellite laser communications terminal and an AI-powered system for precision sorting of corn, sweet corn and carrot seeds.

The BIRD Foundation provides conditional grants of up to $1.5 million per project and helps participating companies establish cross-border partnerships. Projects are evaluated by the foundation and expert reviewers appointed by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Israel Innovation Authority.

Established in 1977, the foundation has supported more than 1,200 joint U.S.-Israeli projects. It has invested approximately $470 million in collaborative initiatives, which have generated more than $10 billion in direct and indirect revenue.

The latest funding round continues the longstanding technological partnership between the two countries, bringing together Israeli innovation and American research and commercial capabilities to develop technologies for global markets.
