Dust off your corded headphones — the iPod is making an unexpected return.

Even though Apple discontinued the iPod line in 2022, demand for its once-ubiquitous MP3 players is climbing again, fueled by nostalgia and growing digital burnout — especially among younger users.

According to Google Trends data, search interest in the original iPod and iPod Nano spiked over the past year. Resale platforms are seeing similar momentum: data shows eBay searches for the iPod Classic jumped 25%, while searches for the iPod Nano rose 20% between January and October 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

For many buyers, the appeal lies in simplicity.

Unlike smartphones — which bundle music, messaging, social media and constant notifications — iPods serve a single purpose: playing music. That limitation is precisely the point. Users say the distraction-free experience offers a sense of control that feels increasingly rare in the smartphone era.

Some describe using an iPod as a form of digital “detox,” allowing them to take walks or commute without the pull of alerts and apps. Others cite nostalgia, associating the devices with simpler, less chaotic times.

Still, streaming remains dominant. U.S. on-demand audio streaming reached 1.4 trillion song streams in 2025, up from 1.3 trillion the year prior.

For now, the iPod’s resurgence is less about replacing smartphones — and more about reclaiming a quieter way to listen.
