Ten Chabad Bochurim Returning From Kvutza Year Arrested in Ben Gurion Airport
Tension gripped Ben Gurion Airport today as roughly ten Lubavitcher Bochurim returning home from their Kvutza year with The Rebbe in 770 were arrested by military police, some in front of their families • Read More
The arrests, reportedly due to unresolved draft status issues following the cancellation of the long-standing “Chabad Agreement,” shocked onlookers — especially family members who had come to greet their sons and brothers after more than a year apart.
According to eyewitnesses, some parents and siblings were allowed just a few brief moments to say hello before the bochurim were led away by officers. One emotional mother pleaded to accompany her son as he was taken, but police refused to allow it.
This comes in continuation of the arrests reported last week at Ben Gurion, highlighting a growing crackdown on yeshiva students returning from overseas study.
The incident has sent waves of concern through the Chabad community. In response, several major Yeshivos have announced they will send students to Thursday’s mass rally in Jerusalem protesting the drafting of yeshiva students, with many granting early “Shabbos off” leave to enable participation.
