Initial investigation revealed that a patrol stationed at a nearby pillbox near Ariel Square reported hearing an explosion from a passing vehicle. The assailants continued toward the Tapuach Junction, attempting the ramming attack before being stopped by IDF fire.
The Police have temporarily closed the Tapuach Junction to all traffic while security forces investigate the scene.
Yossi Dagan, Head of the Shomron Regional Council, praised the IDF and security forces for their rapid response, stating: “I strengthen our soldiers and security forces who acted quickly and decisively to prevent a serious attack. These events show just how critical checkpoints are. I demand the reinstatement of checkpoints and security checks. At the beginning of the war, we saw that with checkpoints there were zero attacks, and now that the situation is changing, we see that terror is trying to return. We must return to a clear policy of checkpoints and security inspections to protect the lives of civilians and soldiers. At the same time, we will continue to build and strengthen the settlements in Shomron because this is the true answer to terror.”
The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the Shomron and the importance of constant vigilance by both soldiers and local communities.
