The shooting came just minutes after another shooting near Nostrand Avenue and St. John’s Place, where a man was shot. A person of interest was taken into custody in that incident and a firearm was recovered.

Police are searching for two suspects who fled the Kingston Avenue shooting toward Albany Avenue.

Following the shooting near Kingston Avenue, the large police presence in the area increased as officers secured the scene and investigated the incident. The Labor Day festivities were eventually brought to an early close at approximately 5:30 p.m., as planned by the NYPD due to heightened security concerns.

The NYPD had deployed thousands of officers throughout Crown Heights for the annual West Indian American Day Parade, one of the department’s largest security operations of the year. Despite the extensive deployment, the day was marked by multiple shootings and earlier stabbings and slashings along or near the parade route.

The area around 770 and Eastern Parkway was subsequently cleared as police continued their investigation.
