An unusual maamar in Torah Or, written by the Alter Rebbe himself and packed with references to Kabbalah, has been published in a new edition that brings every source onto the page, making it accessible for the first time to anyone who wants to learn it.

The maamar, “Lashon Admur Nishmaso Eden,” is printed in Torah Or, Parshas Chayei Sarah, immediately following the maamar “Yafeh Sha’ah Achas.” In a footnote, the Rebbe lists the two maamarim together and describes their content as “Kabbalah.” The maamar is written in the Alter Rebbe’s own handwriting, and nearly every line depends on sources, primarily the Etz Chaim and the Zohar, that a learner would need open in front of him, in the very editions the Alter Rebbe had over two hundred years ago.

Those editions differ from the ones commonly available today, and most people neither own them nor have the time to track down every reference. The Tzemach Tzedek wrote a biur on only the first third of the maamar, printed in the Hosafos to Torah Or; for the remainder, a learner was on his own.

The new edition, released this week as a free download on LearnChassidus.com, solves that. Every source is quoted in full exactly where it is cited, drawn from the editions the Alter Rebbe and the Tzemach Tzedek themselves used, such as the Koretz 5542 printing of Etz Chaim. It also includes a clear biur on the entire maamar, completing the work the Tzemach Tzedek began.

The edition was arranged by Avraham Katz of LearnChassidus.com, with significant editorial contributions from ChassidutBehirah.com, and was reviewed by Rabbi Yossi Keller, who helped tremendously in preparing it. It is available for free download, in Hebrew.
