Late-Night Blaze on Brooklyn Avenue Displaces Multiple Families

A fire broke out late Monday night at a residential building located at 580 Brooklyn Avenue, between Midwood Street and Rutland Road in Brooklyn, sending thick smoke billowing through the structure and prompting a swift response from multiple FDNY units • Full Story, Photos, Watch

The blaze, which began around 11 p.m., was reportedly caused by an electrical issue. Firefighters arrived quickly and managed to bring the fire under control before it could spread further.

Residents of the building evacuated safely, including a Lubavitcher family living on the upper floors and several Mexican workers who had been renting the basement. The building is owned by a member of the Satmar community.

Though the fire was contained, the building sustained smoke and electrical damage, and tenants were temporarily displaced as officials assessed the situation.
