MK Tzvi Sukkot, known for his strong friendship with Chabad Chassidim and the Rebbe’s Shluchim, was set to speak at the International Kinus Hashluchim – L’Kabolas Pnei Moshiach Tzidkeinu, on the topic of Shleimus Haaretz. But to the surprise of the participants, he did not arrive. What prevented him from flying?
About two weeks ago, MK Tzvi Sukkot (Religious Zionism Party) was supposed to fly to the United States as a guest speaker at the International Kinus HaShluchim in an initiative arranged by Chabad activist and Nof HaGalil city council member R’ Menachem Gendel.
The flight had already been booked in advance, but the online entry visa application he submitted was not approved.
According to journalist Yaron Avraham (Channel 12), MK Sukkot was then transferred to the standard visa application process via the American Embassy, where he was questioned regarding his criminal record.
During the consular interview, Sukkot was asked about previous investigations. He answered that there had been such cases when he was 19. He was then asked when he was last investigated — and replied: “Yesterday.”
At that point, the American officials decided that the issue required deeper review. In the background of the matter stands Sukkot’s police investigation one day prior to submitting the application, as part of the ‘Sde Teman Airbase entry case’.
The American consulate refused to approve the visa at that stage and clarified that further inquiry was necessary.
Sukkot waited until the very last moment, hoping the process would be completed and that he would still be able to fly to the Rebbe’s Daled Amos. He even held onto his plane ticket booked for the following day — but in the end was forced to forgo the trip.
Since then, Sukkot has appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting assistance, mainly due to the fact that he is a serving Member of the Knesset, and also because his parents and wife hold American citizenship.
Despite this, two weeks have passed and the visa process has still not been completed.
Today, Sukkot was asked to come collect his passport — ahead of the final decision as to whether a visa will be issued to him or whether a formal denial will be delivered.
