Special Shechita Run Helps Ecuador Stock Up on Kosher Meat

A group of shochtim travelled to Guayaquil, Ecuador with the intention to replenish the community’s direly needed supply of kosher meat under the supervision of local Shliach Rabbi Mendy Fried.
Rabbi Eliyahu Ezagui, an international shochet who has conducted shechita runs in places such as Nicaragua, Kalmykia, as well as others, arrived from Crown Heights to run the operation. Dozens of cattle and hundreds of chickens were slaughtered according to Jewish law, kashered, and packed, helping make kosher meat widely available for local Jewish residents.
The group also took advantage of an opportunity to produce thousands of liters of Cholov Yisroel milk and hundreds of kilos of cheese, all under a special hashgacha.
Rabbi Mendy and his wife Menucha Rochel have been serving as Shluchim to the scenic tourist destination since 2018.
Guayaquil has a local Jewish population of only 150, however thousands of Jewish tourists pass through on a yearly basis. A total 0f 1,000 Jews call the South American country home.
