New Chabad House on 27th Floor Brings Jewish Life to Moscow’s Skyscrapers

In the heart of Moscow’s prestigious “Moscow City” district, towering skyscrapers house the city’s international business center, spanning both underground and upper levels, with thousands of offices and residential units. Every day, hundreds of thousands of people pass through and work in the area, including many Jewish business professionals • Read More

With the rapid development of the district and massive construction in the surrounding area, the need arose to expand the Jewish presence that began several years ago — starting with an active synagogue in the Afimall shopping center established by philanthropist R’ Levi Leviev, and continued with the opening of Chabad Moscow about five years ago by Rabbi Yosef Moshe Weisberg.

To accommodate the growing community of business professionals, Jewish families, and youth, a permanent Chabad House was recently purchased on the 27th floor of the central tower. The space has been renovated and adapted for meetings, classes, and programs, while regular prayers and Shabbat and holiday meals continue in the existing ground-floor synagogue.

In a modest yet highly significant ceremony, the Mezuzos were affixed by Russia’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Berel Lazar, philanthropist R’ Levi Leviev, philanthropist Rabbi Yehuda Davidov, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities, Rabbi Alexander Barda, and Rabbi Mordechai Weisberg, father of the Chabad house director. During a shofar blowing marking the month of Elul, the Shliach’s father-in-law, Rabbi Tzvi Roderman — from Chabad in Jerusalem’s Machane Yehuda neighborhood — was also honored.

Guests touring the new Chabad center marveled at its beauty and the panoramic views of the bustling city below. With this expansion, activities for the Jewish population in the area are expected to grow, joining the dozens of other Chabad houses in Moscow that, together with local institutions, provide opportunities for prayer, education, and connection to Jewish life.
