Moving Hachnosas Sefer Torah Held at Chabad of Mykonos, Greece

A moving Siyum and Hachnosas Sefer Torah was held at Chabad of Mykonos, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea and one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, led by Shliach Rabbi Uziel Moshe Friedland. The Sefer Torah was donated by the Drey family, residents of Mykonos, in memory of David Drey A”H, the family patriarch who passed away four years ago • Full Story

The celebration took place at a luxury hotel near the Chabad House and opened with Mincha, followed by a Shofar blowing in the courtyard, a cocktail reception, and L’chaims. Participants then gathered to complete the writing of the Sefer Torah, accompanied by Divrei Torah, words of inspiration, and a festive meal.

Rabbi and author Elad Cohen traveled from Eretz Yisroel especially for the occasion. Having assisted with the writing of the Sefer Torah, he came to Mykonos to complete its writing. The evening concluded with singing and dancing alongside a DJ who had also traveled from Eretz Yisroel, creating an atmosphere of great Simchas Mitzvah.

The event was part of the growing Jewish activity throughout Greece, which continues to expand under the leadership of Rabbi Mendel Hendel, the Rebbe’s Shliach to Greece.

This is the second Sefer Torah to be brought into the Chabad House since its establishment—a significant milestone reflecting the continued growth of Jewish life in Mykonos and the strengthening of the island’s Jewish community.
