Israel’s Minister of Agriculture, Avi Dichter, recently visited Moldova, where he met with senior government officials and leaders in the agricultural sector. During his trip, he held an extended meeting with representatives of the Jewish community, led by Chief Rabbi Mendel Axelrod and Shliach Rabbi Shneor Tiefenburn, who presented a comprehensive overview of Jewish life in the country and the community’s extensive preparations for the upcoming Tishrei holidays. Minister Dichter expressed admiration for the work of the Shluchim and their efforts to strengthen Jewish life throughout Moldova.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Chief Rabbi Kalman Ber, during his visit to Ukraine, met Chief Rabbi Axelrod at the airport. Rabbi Ber devoted significant time to hearing about the vibrant Jewish revival in Moldova — a revival launched decades ago by Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, of blessed memory, the unforgettable Chief Rabbi and the first Shliach of the Rebbe to the former Soviet Union.

In preparation for the High Holidays, the Jewish community of Moldova has once again purchased tons of kosher food to provide festive Rosh Hashanah meals in 18 cities, where Shluchim and Yeshiva students will be on hand to assist local communities.
