Knesset Passes Resolution Affirming Israel’s Historical and Legal Right to Sovereignty in Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley

In a historic vote on Wednesday afternoon, the Knesset plenum approved a resolution affirming the natural, historical, and legal rights of the Jewish people to the entire Land of Israel, with special emphasis on Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley • Read More

The resolution passed with a majority of 71 MKs supporting it, while Arab parties and Yair Golan’s ‘Democrats’ voted against. The Blue and White and Yesh Atid parties were notably absent.

The initiative was led by MKs Simcha Rothman, Ofer Porat, Dan Illouz, and Limor Son Har-Melech. The move was backed by the Yesha Council and local leaders in the West Bank, who have lobbied members of Knesset over recent months to promote the declaration as a step towards a government decision.

The resolution declares that these territories form an inseparable part of the Jewish people’s historic, cultural, and spiritual homeland, citing cities such as Hebron, Shechem, Shiloh, and Beit El as symbols of continuous Jewish presence in the land.

It further highlights the October attacks as proof that the establishment of a Palestinian state would pose an existential threat to Israel and destabilize the region. The Knesset reaffirmed its position that the concept of a Palestinian state is no longer on the national agenda.

The resolution calls on the Israeli government to take immediate steps to apply Israeli law, jurisdiction, and administration over all Jewish settlements in Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley.

“This move will strengthen Israel and its security, while preventing any challenge to the fundamental right of the Jewish people to peace and security in their homeland,” the resolution states.

Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi praised the decision, stating, “No nation’s right to its land is clearer, more just, and more deeply rooted in history than the Jewish people’s right to the Land of Israel. This is not only divine sovereignty but also international legal sovereignty, as recognized by the United Nations Charter.” Karhi added that applying sovereignty on Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley—and eventually Gaza—is a sovereign duty and a historic return home for the Jewish people.

Israel Gantz, Chairman of the Yesha Council, thanked the coalition and opposition MKs who supported the proposal, emphasizing that it demonstrated broad national consensus and is a critical step towards securing Israel’s future. He called on the government to translate the resolution into action on the ground without delay.

Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana called the vote a “historic declaration,” asserting that “the Land of Israel belongs to the Jewish people. The 1967 borders did not mark the beginning of occupation—they marked its end.” He underscored that the Jewish people are the indigenous inhabitants of the land and vowed to stand against any narratives claiming otherwise.

MK Dan Illouz, who initiated the proposal, hailed the resolution as the first official Knesset support for sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, signaling the start of a national decision that the world must respect.

In her remarks, MK Limor Son Har-Melech stressed that declarations alone are insufficient and urged for legislative action. She noted that a bill she co-sponsored to apply full sovereignty in Judea and Samaria awaits a vote. She cautioned against attempts to tie sovereignty to the establishment of a Palestinian state, rejecting any proposals for autonomy or confederation.

Son Har-Melech painted a vision of true sovereignty as involving the development of large, contiguous cities comparable to Netanya or Kfar Saba, with state planning and investment leading to lower housing costs—not only in Judea and Samaria but also in Gaza. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to apply real, full sovereignty,” she concluded.
