In a historic milestone, the first-ever men’s mikvah has been established on an IDF base near the Gaza border, providing Chassidishe soldiers stationed in the area with direct access to a kosher mikvah on base.
The new facility enables the soldiers to maintain their spiritual standards while serving on the front lines. Photos from the inauguration capture the meaningful moment for the soldiers and those who helped make it possible.
The initiative began with a group of Chassidishe soldiers stationed at the base who, with official permission, raised the necessary funds and built the Mikvah themselves. The decision came after repeatedly being forced to forgo Mikvah on Shabbos and Yom Tov.
During the week, the soldiers were generally permitted to travel to a nearby Yishuv to use the mikvah. However, on Shabbos and Yom Tov, the distance made this impossible. Determined not to compromise on their standards, the soldiers took the matter into their own hands and worked to establish a mikvah on base.
IDF reporter Mendy Rizel and soldier Meir Molakandov, who were involved in the project, described the process and significance of the initiative during an interview with Ami Maimon on his radio program.
