A growing wave of flight cancellations and airline suspensions is severely disrupting the travel plans of Chabad Shluchim and bochurim ahead of Pesach, creating major challenges for global shlichus efforts.

At the center of the disruption is the ongoing security situation, which has led to significant limitations on air travel to and from Israel. Ben Gurion Airport has been operating under restricted conditions, with most foreign airlines suspending service and only limited flights currently available through Israeli carriers.

As a result, many members of Anash remain stranded. Some emissaries who had planned to travel to the Rebbe for Yud-Alef Nissan and then continue on to Pesach shlichus destinations have been unable to depart Israel. At the same time, others remain stuck abroad, unable to return.

The situation is also impacting bochurim participating in Merkos Shlichus, who travel worldwide each year to assist with Pesach programs and Sedarim. With flights canceled or unavailable, many are facing uncertainty about whether they will be able to reach their assigned locations in time.

Adding to the challenge, major international airlines continue to extend their suspension of service to Israel. United Airlines has reportedly prolonged its halt on nonstop flights between New York and Tel Aviv through June 14, after previously suspending service earlier in the conflict. Delta Air Lines has similarly extended its suspension through May 31.

Israel’s airspace has been largely closed to foreign carriers since the outbreak of the war, with only limited inbound and outbound flights permitted in recent weeks, primarily to assist stranded travelers.

Despite the obstacles, Shluchim and volunteers are working tirelessly to find alternative routes and solutions to ensure that Yidden around the world will be able to celebrate Pesach properly.
