It has been reported by Israeli media that Israel is set to declare the Coronavirus pandemic to be over. As of January 18th, the country’s civilian health system will take over responsibility for conducting Covid-19 tests from the Israel Defense Forces’ Home Front Command.
On January 31st, the SARS-CoV-2 virus will be categorized as an influenza-like virus, according to Kan News. As a result, the pandemic control center will be closed and Covid-19 patients will no longer be required to isolate.
Professor Cyrille Cohen, a member of the Health Ministry’s advisory council for clinical Covid vaccine trials, stated that the goal is to get the virus to an “endemic” stage, where it spreads at a typical or expected rate. Cohen added, “We’re hoping that our healthcare system can cope with these winter infections, including Covid.”
