Australia to Expel Iranian Ambassador Following Attacks on Jewish Community
Australia announced it will expel Iran’s ambassador and designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization following a series of attacks targeting the country’s Jewish community • Full Story
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Iran orchestrated at least two attacks on Australian soil, including incidents at Melbourne’s Adass Israel Synagogue and Lewis’ Continental Kitchen. ASIO, Australia’s domestic intelligence agency, warned that further attacks may have been directed by Iran. Albanese described the actions as “extraordinary and dangerous acts of aggression” aimed at undermining social cohesion.
In addition to expelling Ambassador Ahmad Sadeghi, Australia will suspend operations at its embassy in Tehran.
The move comes amid a surge in antisemitic incidents across the country. Recent months have seen vandalism at synagogues in Sydney, graffiti targeting Jewish homes, and attacks on Israeli businesses in Melbourne.
