Two of the three young men that atteked Rabbi Tzemach Mizrachi, a Shliach of the Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach in Milan, have been deported from Italy following an order by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi. The move comes after the men allegedly targeted the Rabbi because of his Jewish appearance and mocked him before one of them allegedly kicked him.

The incident took place on September 16 at a bus stop in Milan’s Bande Nere neighborhood. According to Rabbi Mizrachi’s account, the three young men approached him, called out to him in Arabic, took his hat and put it on while mocking him. As they began to leave, one of them allegedly turned back and kicked him.

Rabbi Mizrachi documented the incident on his phone and sent the footage to Jewish community security personnel, who alerted police. The three suspects, aged 19, 20 and 22 and of Tunisian and Moroccan origin, were subsequently identified.

One of the suspects was arrested and faces charges including propaganda and incitement to commit crimes on the basis of racial, ethnic or religious discrimination. The other two were initially investigated while remaining free.

On October 1, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi announced that two of the three had been repatriated—one to Morocco and the other to Tunisia. “There is no room in our country for hatred and violence, and no act of antisemitism will ever be tolerated,” the minister said.

The third suspect remains in Italy and is due to face trial in November. All three have also been issued orders barring them from Milan for one year.

Rabbi Mizrachi serves as a Shliach and Rabbi at Beit Hatalmud – Heichal Menachem on Via Soderini, one of several Chabad institutions serving the Jewish community of Milan.
