At the Heart of the Struggle: Sefer Torah from 770 to Gush Katif
As the Jewish world marks the 20th anniversary of the ruthless eviction and forced displacement of thousands of Jews from Gush Katif and northern Samaria on Tisha B’Av, painful memories resurface of the expulsion that led to the establishment of “Hamastan” in Gaza • Read More, Photos
In the critical months leading up to the expulsion, Chabad Chassidim were deeply involved in the national effort to stop the disengagement plan. From public campaigns to spiritual outreach, Chabad stood firmly with the residents of Gush Katif and Northern Samaria.
A particularly moving chapter of this effort was the writing of a Sefer Torah at the World Chabad Headquarters in 770 Eastern Parkway, dedicated in merit of the residents of those areas. In a powerful and symbolic moment, the Torah scroll was completed and brought to Gush Katif — a beacon of faith amid the looming storm.
The photos presented here from the ChabadInfo archives capture the emotional conclusion of the Torah scroll campaign and the deep connection between the Rebbe’s Shluchim and the embattled communities of Gush Katif.
Two decades later, the images remain a stirring reminder: of solidarity, faith, and the fight for every inch of the Holy Land.
