    We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Rabbi Chaim Binyamin Burston, a longtime Teacher in Oholei Torah and later in Cheder Menachem in Los Angeles, who was an internationally known storyteller and musician. He passed away on 18 Teves 5784

    He was 72.

    Originally from Pasadena, California, Chaim was niskarev to Yiddishkeit and Lubavitch, while in Eretz Yisroel, later learning in New York.

    For many years, Rabbi Burston taught 1st grade in Oholei Torah in Crown Heights and later in Cheder Menachem in Los Angeles, California. He  inspired hundreds of young children and instilling in them a love of Torah and Yiddishkeit.

    Rabbi Burston was an internationally known storyteller and musician. He created “Rabbi Burston Story Tapes,” which are heard in countless Jewish homes and schools across the globe.

    In addition to storytelling, he has recorded five collections of beautiful and haunting tunes entitled Jewish Mystical Melodies.

    Early on he knew that he wanted to do something in the area of music, but when he was exposed to Chasidic nigunim, he found that their pure melody tapped his heart and soul.

    Rabbi Chaim Binyomin is survived by his wife, Chana Baila, and his children: Pesach Burston – Orange County, NY; Rivkah Rochel Greenberg – Crown Heights; Yossi Burston – Los Angeles, California; Tzvi Burston – Los Angeles, California; Alti Burston – Los Angeles, California; Frumie Goodman – Crown Heights, Moshe Burston –Los Angeles, California; Miriam Burston – Los Angeles, California, and Dovi Burston – Los Angeles, California, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchild.

    Levaya will take place on Sunday in Los Angeles, passing by Cheder Menachem at 12:30 pm, passing by Levi Yitzchak 1:00pm and continuing on to Home of Peace Cemetery at 2pm.
