We are deeply saddened tor report on the passing of Mrs. Rochel Kaplan, who served as head Shlucha of Maryland for 5 decades and the founder of Aleph Learning Institute. She passed away on Monday 19 Shvat 5784.
She was 69.
In 5734, Mrs. Kaplan was sent by the Rebbe to Baltimore, Maryland, together with her husband Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, they spearheaded Chabad of Maryland into 32 Chabad Houses and dozens of Shluchim across the state.
Mrs. Kaplan also founded and directed the Aleph Learning Institute, which brings learning opportunities to Jewish women.
She is survived by her husband Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, their children Rabbi Levi Kaplan – Pomona, NY; Rabbi Chanoch Kaplan – Franklin Lakes, NJ; Rabbi Mendel Kaplan – Potomac Village, MD; Devorah Leah Riesenberg – Pomona, NY; Chani Feldman – Greenwich, CT; Esther Kavka – Rockville, MD; Mushka Minkowitz – Chevy Chase, MD and Rabbi Yaakov Kaplan – Baltimore, MD; and grandchildren.
She is survived by her siblings Rivkah Piekarski, Shea Hecht, Shterna Weinberg, Devorah Halberstam-Ingber, Faigy Carlebach, Brocha Karp and Yisrael Hecht.
The levaya will be held on Monday 4:00 PM at the entrance of Old Montefiore Cemetery in Cambria Heights, Queens, NY.
