The event took place in the museum’s southern wing, dedicated to World War II, where visitors are exposed to the Mesirus Nefesh of the kedoshim HY”D and the suffering endured throughout the years of the war, particularly in the Soviet Union.
The ceremony was hosted by prominent Russian public figure Igor Mirkurbanov and opened by Rabbi Alexander Boroda, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia. Addresses were delivered by the ambassadors of Israel, Germany, Poland, and the United Kingdom.
Chief Rabbi of Russia Rabbi Berel Lazar recited Kel Maleh Rachamim in memory of the six million kedoshim HY”D, after which he read a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has participated in past commemorations.
Before the lighting of six memorial candles, Rabbi Lazar delivered the central address, emphasizing the danger of indifference, the responsibility to combat hatred, and the obligation to educate future generations. He paid tribute to the Righteous Among the Nations and expressed gratitude to the soldiers of the Red Army who liberated Auschwitz and much of Europe.
