20 Years: 1,000 Families Demand Return to Gush Katif
As Am Yisrael marks 20 years since the Israeli government gave away Gush Katif and northern Samaria, 1,000 families—who were uprooted from their homes and forced to relocate to temporary housing—have signed a letter calling for a return to the region • Read More
The letter, sent on Monday to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ministers, and Knesset members, was signed by a diverse group of individuals, including MK Nissim Vaturi and Rabbi David Fendel, head of the Sderot Yeshiva.
Among the signatories are several bereaved families who lost loved ones in the fighting in Gaza, including Itzik and Inbal Pitosi, Elad and Zurit Penningstein, Dr. Yehoshua and Marina Sokol, Yaakov and Miriam Sokol, Tiran and Dganit Naama Yaakov, Muriel Franco, and others.
In the letter, the families wrote, among other things:
“We, 1,000 families, request to settle in the northern part of Gaza — to establish Jewish communities, educational institutions, industrial centers, and civilian infrastructure.”
They added: “Twenty years have passed since we were thrown out — now is the time to reverse course. Only a broad civilian presence will restore security and return Israeli sovereignty to the area.”
The families emphasized that the region is already prepared for resettlement and called for immediate action to reestablish Jewish communities there — as the first step toward renewed settlement throughout the entire Gaza Strip.
