Rabbi Korf’s Lone Flight to Help a Young Shliach Across the Sea

As news spreads of the passing of Rabbi Avraham Korf, Head Shliach to Florida, stories of his boundless dedication are being shared by those privileged to know him. One such story comes from Rabbi Dudi Kaplan, Shliach to Cozumel, Mexico, who recalls an encounter nearly a decade ago that left a lasting impression • Full Story

“About ten years ago, I needed professional help to inspect the mikvah here in Cozumel. Someone told me that Rabbi Korf was an expert. I had never spoken to him before, but I picked up the phone and called him.”

“He didn’t know who I was. I said, ‘Hello Rabbi Korf, I heard you’re knowledgeable about Mikva’os. We’d be honored if you could come inspect ours.’”

Without hesitation, Rabbi Korf asked just a few short technical questions. No introductions, no formalities. “Okay,” he said. “I can come next week.”

“I bought him a ticket — I remember having to scroll back a while to find his birth year because of his age… and true to his word, he came.”

“At his advanced age, he flew alone from Miami to Mexico, took a taxi, then a ferry to reach the island. And he came with the energy of a young Bochur just starting his Shlichus.”

“He inspected the mikvah, farbrenged with us for several hours, and then returned to Florida. It was pure selflessness. A true Chossid, a humble giant, a Shliach of the Rebbe with heart and soul. Those of us who experienced his dedication carry it with us — and with the strength he gave us, we will continue our Shlichus to prepare the world to greet Moshiach.”
