In the Shadow of war, Chief Rabbi of Ukraine and Senior Shliach Rabbi Moshe Azman joined President Volodymir Zelensky at the holocaust ceremony at Babyn Yar, to commemorate on International Holocaust Day at the place tens of thousands of Jews that were murdered by the Nazis in Babyn Yar.
The site was bombed last year by the Russian army at the beginning of the war.
In the ceremony that took place in the shadow of the shelling of the Russian army, President Zelensky, the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Azman, senior government officials, ambassadors, MP’s and Rabbi Steven Borg, the head of Aish Hatorah. The local Jewish community was represented by Rabbi Azman, Chief Rabbi to Ukraine who offered a prayer in their memory and a prayer for the end of the current war.
The president released a message to mark the day, saying: “Today, as always, Ukraine honours the memory of millions of Holocaust victims.
“We know and remember that indifference kills along with hatred. Indifference and hatred are always capable of creating evil together only,” he said.
“That is why it is so important that everyone who values life should show determination when it comes to saving those whom hatred seeks to destroy.”
