We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Rabbi Yosef Levitin OBM, a Chossid who was smuggled out as a baby from Russia as part of the “Great Escape,” and whose children are all Shluchim throughout the world of Bnei Brak. He passed away on Shabbos, the 7th of Teves, 5783

    He was 76 years old.

He was born in Samarkand to Pinchus and Ita Rivkah Levitin, and was an infant when his family was smuggled out of Russia, as part of the “Great Escape” with many Russian Chasidim. The family settled in France and were among the refugees who settled in Paris after the WWII.

As a young man he traveled to America with the Bracha of the Frierdiker Rebbe.

In 5744, after a Bracha from the Rebbe, he moved with his family to live in Eretz Yisroel.

He was zoiche that all his children are Shluchim across the world.

He is survived by his wife Rebbetzin Devorah Levitin, and children: Mrs. Malka Hartman (Odessa, Ukarine); Rabbi Chaim Levitin (Neve Tzedek/Tell Aviv, EY); Mrs. Shifra Brod (Hodera, EY) and Rabbi Yechiel Levitin (Slovensk, Russia).

He is also survived by his brothers, Rabbi Moshe Levitin (Monsey, NY), Rabbi Berel Levitin (New Haven, CT), and Rabbi Mendel Levitin (New Jersey).

Levaya and Shiva information to be announced.
