770: How Much Did the Mitzvos Sell for This Year?

More than $560,000 raised in the annual sale of mitzvos in 770: Psicha for Ne’ilah soled for $56,000, Maftir Yonah for $45,000, and Hagbah and Gelilah for every Shabbos of the year for $45,000 • Full Article

As is customary in Lubavitch, the annual Mechiras Hamitzvos takes place on Shabbos Bereishis. During the auction, the gabbai dons a Shtreimel and offers the Aliyos, Psicha of the Aron Kodesh, and other honors for purchase. All proceeds are dedicated to the Shul.

These Mitzvos are traditionally regarded as a segulah for many things, including wealth. Among the sought-after honors are Maftir Yonah at Minchah on Yom Kippur, opening the Aron Kodesh for Kol Nidrei and Ne’ilah, and, presenting the Torah to the Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach during Hakafos on Simchas Torah.

According to a calculation of the amounts listed in the published notice, the total value of the mitzvos with prices specified comes to $561,000.

    Among this year’s highest bids:

    – Pesicha for Ne’ilah on Yom Kippur: $56,000

    – Maftir Yonah: $45,000

    – Pesicha for Tefillas Geshem: $45,000

    – Hagbah and Gelilah on every Shabbos of the year: $45,000

Other notable bids included $38,000 for Pesicha for Kol Nidrei, $36,000 for taking out and returning the Sefer Torah on every Shabbos of the year, and $30,000 for Pesicha for Tefillas Tal on Pesach.

Alongside the honors associated with the Yomim Tovim, the auction also included privileges connected to Krias HaTorah throughout the year, taking out and returning the Torah, and proclaiming “Yechi Adoneinu…”
