Six Boys Have Bris Milah at YEKA Summer Camp
In the crisis-hit city of Zhytomyr, a powerful scene of Jewish pride and resilience unfolded as six Jewish boys underwent a Bris Milah in one day at the Chabad-run Gan Yisroel YEKA summer camp • Full Story
The milestone event — described by community leaders as unprecedented — was carried out under professional medical supervision. All six children are students of the Ohr Avner–Chabad School in Zhytomyr, which provides a warm Jewish environment for local children, including many from challenging family backgrounds.
“This was an extraordinary moment,” shared Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm, Head Shliach to Zhytomyr for over 30 years. “To see six children, here in the heart of Ukraine, take this step with such personal conviction is a true sign of Jewish strength. Every child felt a deep connection to their Yiddishkeit — it came from within.”
The Bris Milah celebration was the highlight of the camp, which is run with the support of the Chabad-affiliated Jewish Relief Network Ukraine – JRNU.
Despite the ongoing crisis, Gan Yisroel camps across Ukraine and the former Soviet Union continue to operate, giving thousands of Jewish children the chance to learn, play, and grow in an atmosphere of Torah, Mitzvos, and Chassidishkeit — and to experience true Jewish pride.
