The grand “Shabbos of Unity” for Ukrainian rabbis took place in Dnipro at the world’s largest Jewish center, Menorah.

The event, named “Shabbos Achdus” or “UnityShabbos,” brought together Shluchim of the Rebbe working in Ukrainian cities and their families.

The Shabbaton focused on strengthening unity, addressing challenges faced by Jewish leaders during a difficult year in Ukraine, and emphasized the unique responsibilities of rabbis working in this country, especially during times of war.

“This year has been very challenging for all of Ukraine, including the leaders of Jewish communities and the Rebbe’s Shluchim. It was crucial for us to come together in one place, Daven together, sit at the same table, say ‘L’chaim’ at gatherings, and observe the Holy Shabbos as one family. We exchanged ideas about the development of our work, discussing the peculiarities of our mission here in Ukraine.

It’s important to understand that rabbis working in Ukraine have the blessing to work in the country where the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe spent his childhood and youth, but the challenges are numerous. Especially now, during the war, the Shluchim here face far more difficulties than, for example, in America, where shluchim are not dealing with the physical health and survival issues of their community members, focusing solely on spiritual matters. Here, we have to care for people’s lives, their health, and their financial well-being, unlike in most Western countries where these functions are largely handled by the government. The role of Shluchim and communities is much greater here, and the responsibility is significantly higher, making the work of rabbis very challenging and requiring immense expenditure of spiritual strength and emotional energy,” – noted Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetsky of Dnipro.

The chosen timing, the Shabbos preceding Yud Shevat, holds significance in commemorating the Rebbe’s leadership anniversary. Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetsky of Dnipro highlighted the complex nature of their work, requiring substantial spiritual and emotional energy.
