A large Rosh Hashanah dinner planned for hundreds of Jewish and Israeli travelers at Chabad House in Phuket, Thailand, was canceled at the last minute following security concerns over a mass anti-Israel protest outside the building.
Some 500 protesters gathered near the Chabad House on Friday, carrying signs including “SAVE PHUKET NO ISRAEL” and chanting “Free Palestine.” The demonstration followed several days of protests targeting Israeli visitors and activities in Thailand.
The Seudas Yom Tov, originally planned for around 1,000 guests, was canceled at the request of Israeli security officials, who warned that the protesters could become violent. Guests were instructed not to approach the area.
Other Rosh Hashanah Tefillos and meals at Chabad were expected to continue as planned, with arrangements made to continue providing for the Jewish travelers.
