A Russian missile struck near the Or Avner Chabad school in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on Monday night, causing extensive damage to nearby buildings and prompting an urgent rescue operation. The school itself escaped a direct hit, and, Baruch Hashem, no injuries were reported on its grounds.
Emergency crews were searching for civilians believed to be trapped beneath the rubble, as the powerful explosion left significant destruction in the surrounding neighborhood.
Members of the local Jewish community joined the rescue efforts, assisting residents affected by the attack.
The volunteers have also been helping civilians in damaged neighborhoods by distributing water, bread and basic food supplies, while offering support to those whose homes have been affected by the ongoing bombardment.
Despite the close call and the continuing security threats, Rabbi Moshe Moskowitz, Chief Rabbi of Kharkiv and a Chabad Shliach, said that classes at the school were expected to resume as usual on Tuesday morning. The decision reflects the community’s determination to maintain Jewish education and continue supporting local residents despite the ongoing danger.
