A towering glow-in-the-dark menorah stood tall and proud in the heart of Old Woodmere on Broadway, the community’s main thoroughfare. Visible from all directions—spanning several blocks, two cross streets, and a bustling parking lot—the menorah became a radiant beacon of Chanukah light throughout the neighborhood, a true expression of pirsumei nissa.
Nightly menorah lightings illuminated Woodmere and featured fresh donuts, hot drinks, lively music, and giveaways, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for all who attended. Despite freezing temperatures on the first night, a crowd still gathered to celebrate with unity and joy, embodying the enduring spirit of Chanukah.
At one of the menorah lightings, Rabbi Efraim Setton discovered that one of the Nassau County police officers on duty was Jewish, and they made sure to supply him with complete menorah kits for himself as well as for his children at home.
The fourth night was especially meaningful, dedicated to the kedoshim and those injured in Bondi. Special prayers and heartfelt words of inspiration were shared by the community’s spiritual leader, Rabbi Efraim Setton. The evening concluded with an incredible fire show that captivated attendees of all ages.
The fifth night continued the excitement with a spectacular gelt drop, generously organized by the local fire department, delighting children and families alike.
Shlucha Sarah Setton shared that community members expressed overwhelming gratitude for the program, thanking Chabad Woodmere profusely for providing such a meaningful local service. She noted that participants were uplifted and instilled with a deep sense of Jewish pride.
Expanding the Chanukah outreach beyond the public lightings, a special mivtzoim SUV displaying a grand menorah transported bochurim throughout the area with the mission of spreading the light of Chanukah far and wide. They lit menorahs in local restaurants and businesses and visited many homes—some in need of menorahs, others seeking guidance on proper lighting. Even homes that already had menorahs warmly welcomed the visits, appreciating the joy, inspiration, and lichtekeit of Chassidus shared by the bochurim—uplifting words that truly touched the heart. Children were especially excited by the Menorah Car, and everyone certainly enjoyed the fresh donuts that added to the festive spirit.
These events are just some of the many highlights that brought the light, joy, and warmth of Chanukah 5786 to the Woodmere community.
