New Letter Issued by Crown Heights Badatz on Ongoing Safrus Scandal
The Badatz of Crown Heights has released a public letter this week reiterating their strong warning about tefillin and mezuzos written by a sofer who abandoned Torah observance. In response, the Badatz has arranged a special expert desk at their offices—390A Kingston Ave.—where a qualified sofrim consultant will be available every Wednsday between 5:00–7:00 p.m. to inspect and identify questionable mezuzos and tefillin. The Rabbonim urge all community members to have their STA”M checked without delay to avoid stumbling blocks in these essential mitzvos.
The letter is signed by Rabbi Avraham Osdoba and Rabbi Yosef Yeshaya Braun, who emphasize the gravity of the matter and the need to uphold the kedusha of Sifrei Torah, Tefillin, and Mezuzos.
Community members with questions may contact the hotline at 347-222-2050.
