A 24-year-old Israeli man was moderately wounded Sunday in a stabbing attack near the village of Al-Auja, north of Yericho in the Jordan Valley. The victim, who had stopped at a nearby shopping complex, was stabbed multiple times and evacuated fully conscious to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim.
The terrorist initially fled the scene, prompting a large-scale manhunt by IDF and security forces. He was later apprehended in the Al-Auja area.
According to initial reports, the victim had stopped at the shopping complex near Al-Auja when the terrorist attacked him from behind before fleeing the scene. Security forces immediately launched a search, establishing roadblocks and closing off parts of the area as the manhunt continued.
The incident was reported at 9:18 a.m. to Magen David Adom’s emergency dispatch center. MDA medics, together with an IDF medical team, treated the victim at the scene before evacuating him to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. He suffered penetrating injuries to his upper body and was listed in moderate condition while fully conscious.
MDA emergency medical technician Gal Shani said: “We received a report of a man who was injured in a stabbing. We met the victim, who was fully conscious and suffering from a stab wound to his upper body. We provided him with medical treatment and evacuated him by MDA mobile intensive care unit to the hospital, where his condition was moderate and he remained fully conscious.”
Following the attack, large IDF forces conducted an extensive search throughout Al-Auja and the surrounding area. The terrorist was subsequently captured by IDF forces. According to reports, the suspect is a 16-year-old resident of the area.
