Massive Fire Devastates Havat Gilad; Residents Rebuild as Suspects Arrested

The blaze erupted on Saturday afternoon amid extreme heat and rapidly spread through the hilltop community, fueled by strong winds and dry vegetation.
Firefighters, IDF forces, police, volunteers, and local emergency squads battled the flames for hours before finally bringing the fire under control late Motzei Shabbos. Several firefighters were injured during the operation, but, Baruch Hashem, no fatalities were reported.
The fire left widespread destruction in its wake. Authorities said 13 homes were completely destroyed, while dozens of additional homes, farm buildings, vehicles, and other structures sustained heavy damage. Entire families lost nearly all of their possessions within minutes, and approximately one hundred residents were evacuated from the community as flames engulfed neighborhoods.
Despite the devastation, the spirit of Havat Gilad remained unbroken. Residents were seen returning to the charred remains of their homes almost immediately after the fire was extinguished, salvaging whatever they could and beginning cleanup efforts.
Volunteers from across Judea and Samaria arrived with food, clothing, equipment, and supplies to assist displaced families. Community leaders emphasized that the response to the destruction would be to rebuild every home and continue developing the community with renewed determination.
In a significant development, Israeli security forces announced Monday that two Arab suspects were arrested overnight in a joint operation conducted by the Israel Police, Border Police, and the IDF. The suspects were transferred to the Judea and Samaria District’s Central Investigations Unit for questioning on suspicion of causing the fire.
Israeli media have also reported that investigators are examining evidence indicating the suspects may be members of the Palestinian Authority police, a detail that is expected to add another serious dimension to the investigation. Authorities have not yet publicly released the suspects’ identities, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The fire comes amid heightened security tensions throughout Judea and Samaria, where Israeli officials have repeatedly warned about attempts to use arson as a form of terrorism. Investigators continue to examine all available evidence, including witness testimony and forensic findings.
As Havat Gilad begins rebuilding, residents say the destruction has only strengthened their resolve. While many families lost homes and treasured possessions, they insist that their commitment to the community and to settling the Land of Israel remains stronger than ever.
