Hidden History: WWII Jewish Artifacts Discovered in Poland

A hoard of artifacts believed to have been hidden by their Jewish owners during WWII has been uncovered in Poland, shedding light on the lives of those affected by the atrocities of the war • Full Story, Photos

About 400 items believed to have been hidden in the ground by their Jewish owners during World War II have been uncovered during house renovation work in a yard in Lodz in central Poland, media reports said Sunday

According to experts in the preservation of historical objects, the cache consists primarily of silver-plated tableware, menorahs, and glass containers for cosmetics.

The regional office for the preservation of historic objects has stated that these items will be transferred to the city’s Archaeology Museum.

This discovery at 23 Polnocna Street, located just outside the boundaries of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto in Lodz, carries great historical significance as the ghetto was established by Nazi Germans in February 1940 and held around 200,000 Jews from various parts of Europe until August 1944. Tragically, the majority of these prisoners either died in the ghetto or in concentration camps.
