Hands-On Shechita Shiur Deepens Bochurim’s Knowledge in Nachlas Har Chabad
A unique shiur klali on the laws and practice of shechita was held this week at the Yeshivas Kayitz in Nachlas Har Chabad, giving bochurim both deeper understanding and practical knowledge • Full Story, Photos
The shiur was delivered by Rabbi Eliyahu Shlomo Ezagui, a world-traveling shochet who has assisted countless shluchim in remote corners of the globe, often in places with extremely limited access to kosher meat and poultry. Over the years, Rabbi Ezagui has shechted in far-flung communities, ensuring that Jews everywhere can maintain kosher standards.
In Nachlas Har Chabad, his shiur combined halachic principles with vivid storytelling and hands-on demonstrations. He showed the bochurim how to properly examine a Chalaf to ensure it is smooth and free of blemishes, as well as how to sharpen it to the highest standard. Each student then had the chance to personally check the knives, making the shiur a fully interactive experience.
The combination of Rabbi Ezagui’s deep expertise, personal stories, and live demonstrations gave the students a rare glimpse into the precision and responsibility that define the sacred work of a shochet, and significantly deepened their knowledge of this vital area of halacha.
