Chabad of Georgina, ON, Canada, led by Rabbi Yossi Vorovitch, held its very first Giant Menorah lighting on Motzoei Shabbos, with scores of local Jews in attendance. Also joining in the festivities were Georgina Mayor Margaret Quirk, who was honored with lighting the Shamash and presented with a gift of a chocolate Menorah, as well as other local officials and dignitaries.

The Chanukah celebration took place in Jackson’s Point, ON, the northernmost tip of York Region and the Greater Toronto Area.

The event began with a Havdalah ceremony and the lighting of the Menorah, followed by a rendition of “Maoz Tzur” from the Hebrew School choir and a chocolate gelt drop by the local Fire Department.

The celebration, the first of its kind in the area, was put on with the help of the Jackson’s Point BIA & the Town of Georgina. Local news was also on the scene to cover the historic event.
