    Tel Aviv Celebrates Chanukah With 136 Public Menorah Lightings

    As is the long-standing tradition, Tel Aviv’s Chabad Shluchim and Chassidim bring the light of Chanukah the city’s Residents with 136 (!) public menorah lighting’s, from Jaffa in the south to the northern neighborhoods and bringing the light of Chanukah to Hundreds of Thousands of residents.

    The central Menorah lighting takes place at 7:30pm local time with a large menorah at Dizengoff Square. The first night the Menorah was lit by Rabbi Elchanan Zevulun, the deputy mayor. With doughnuts and Chanukah gelt distributed.

    According to Rabbi Yosef Gerlitzky, the Head Shliach of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, “the [Menorah] lightings are held at the initiative of the Rebbe, in order to publicize the Chanukah miracle and illuminate the darkness with the light of a Mitzvah and Torah Ohr, until the darkness itself begins to shine with true redemption. Messiah we were right”.
