A moving moment took place in the town of Lubavitch, Russia, when a 70-year-old Jewish man visiting the town with his children put on Tefillin for the first time in his life.
During the visit, he spoke with Rabbi Yakim Yagudaev, a Shliach of the Rebbe in Moscow, who explained the significance of the Mitzvah of Tefillin and discussed other aspects of Jewish life, including Bris Milah and Bar Mitzvah. Following their conversation, the two agreed to remain in contact and continue the connection through Chabad in Moscow.
The moving encounter took place amid the summer wave of visitors to Lubavitch. Groups of students, summer camps and Jewish communities from across Russia and neighboring countries have been visiting the historic town, taking part in Davening, Torah classes, Farbrengens and tours of its holy and historic sites.
Among the visitors was a group of approximately 150 children and staff from Gan Yisrael – Tzeirei HaShluchim in Moscow, made up of the children of Shluchim from across Russia and neighboring countries. Shliach Rabbi Gavriel Gordon welcomed the group and spoke to the children about the history of Lubavitch and its central place in the history of Chabad Chassidus.
The visits to Lubavitch also include Mivtzaim, giving visitors the opportunity not only to learn about Chassidic history and the town’s significance, but also to help fellow Jews strengthen their commitment to Mitzvos and make good resolutions.
