JERUSALEM — In a terror attack which occurred Wednesday morning on Road 443, the main artery connecting Jerusalem and the Modi’in district, a terrorist rammed through a checkpoint, badly injuring a soldier. The terrorist then left his car with a hammer, intending to murder the soldier but he managed to shoot him dead before he could do further damage.

Surveillance camera images show the terrorist arriving at the checkpoint and ramming the soldier, who is thrown backwards to the ground. The terrorist tried to stab him and then to hit him with an axe but he succeeded in shooting him dead.

The IDF announced that “a terrorist arrived a short time ago at the checkpoint and rammed an IDF officer. The terrorist got out of his car armed with an axe to attack the officer, who shot at the terrorist and neutralized him. The officer was badly injured and has been taken to hospital for treatment.”

MDA medics treated the officer, stemming bleeding and immobilizing injured limbs before he was transferred to hospital, where it was reported that he is suffering from multi-system trauma. He is sedated and respirated and will be taken for an operation after a CT scan.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid stated that “the ramming incident in Binyamin ended with the neutralization of the terrorist. Security forces are active and prepared for every event and attempt to harm Israeli citizens.

“We will continue to initiate operations to prevent terror incidents. I send my wishes for speedy recovery to the IDF officer who bravely fought the terrorist and neutralized him, thus saving lives.”
