The Chabad community in Berlin continues to grow. At a special event held at the city’s Jewish Campus, Berlin Chief Rabbi and the Rebbe’s Shliach, Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal, unveiled plans for a new synagogue to government officials, business leaders, architects, and community supporters.
During the event, Rabbi Teichtal presented the vision for the project, which is designed to meet the needs of Berlin’s rapidly expanding Jewish community. The new Shul will accommodate the growing number of Mispalelim, students, tourists, and Jewish families who have made the city their home in recent years.
The highlight of the evening was an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience, allowing attendees to take a virtual tour of the future synagogue before construction has even begun. Using VR headsets, guests explored the planned sanctuary, the Aron Kodesh, seating areas, and the architectural design, gaining a realistic preview of the completed building.
Following the presentation, Rabbi Teichtal led guests to the rooftop of the campus, where he pointed out the future site of the Shul. He spoke about Berlin’s remarkable transformation—from a city where synagogues were destroyed during the Holocaust to one where a prominent new Jewish landmark is now set to rise.
Among those in attendance was German Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Building Christian Gaebler, who described the project as “a significant milestone for Jewish life in post-war Germany.” Government representatives expressed their strong support for the initiative, noting that it symbolizes the confidence, resilience, and flourishing revival of Berlin’s Jewish community.
The Berlin Jewish community is now preparing to begin construction, with hopes of completing the new Shul as soon as possible.
