A heartwarming and inspiring moment took place at a recent Bris Milah hosted by Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz of Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida.
Joining the simcha were renowned mohel and Shliach Rabbi Yochanan Klein, Shliach Rabbi Sholom Katz, and Shliach Rabbi Yossi Korf, together with family and friends who gathered to welcome a newborn Jewish child into the Bris of Avraham Avinu.
During the Bris, Rabbi Minkowicz struck up a conversation with the baby’s grandfather, who had traveled from Eretz Yisroel to participate in the family celebration. In the course of their discussion, Rabbi Minkowicz asked him whether he had ever put on Tefillin.
To everyone’s surprise, the grandfather replied that he never had.
Recognizing the unique opportunity, Rabbi Minkowicz helped the 66-year-old grandfather put on Tefillin for the very first time in his life. The emotional moment transformed the family celebration into a double Simcha — not only the Bris of a new Jewish child, but also a personal milestone for the grandfather, who experienced his own spiritual “Bar Mitzvah” moment decades later.
What began as a celebration of a new generation entering the Bris became a powerful reminder that it is never too late for a Jew to connect with his heritage and perform a mitzvah for the first time.
The moving occasion left a lasting impression on all those present and served as a vivid demonstration of the power of one mitzvah and the timeless bond every Jew shares with Hashem.
